Les Arenetes beach

The secret spot in Dénia you need to discover at the far end of Las Rotas.”

Cala Les arenetes

If you’re looking for a beach in Dénia that combines nature, crystal-clear waters and an intimate atmosphere, Les Arenetes is the perfect place for you. Discover everything this little paradise has to offer!

Description

Les Arenetes, also known as the far end of Las Rotas, is a hidden gem on the coast of Dénia, perfect for those seeking a natural environment away from the hustle and bustle of the larger beaches. This small cove, only a few metres long, offers a unique access to the sea via a rocky platform. Despite its small size, its marine surroundings are anything but small: vast and spectacular.

Once you enter the water, the experience transforms. Just a few metres from the shore, the depth increases rapidly, making Les Arenetes an ideal spot for diving. Wearing diving goggles is practically essential to admire the incredible marine life that inhabits these waters, such as colourful fish and octopuses, which are common in the area. Appropriate footwear is essential as the rocks can be slippery and, in some spots, sharp. Moreover, thanks to its location within the Cabo de San Antonio Marine Reserve, it is a protected area, ensuring that its waters are teeming with life.

In summer, the cove can fill up quickly due to its small size and popularity, especially among enthusiasts of snorkelling and kayak excursions. From Les Arenetes, excursions depart to the impressive cliffs of Cabo de San Antonio, offering an incredible view of the coast from the water. If you prefer peace and quiet and enjoying nature, it is advisable to arrive early to secure a good spot.

Activities

Diving: The great depth near the shore and the marine biodiversity make this cove perfect for divers. Diving is limited and requires a prior permit from the Territorial Directorate of Agriculture, Fisheries, Food and Water of Alicante (Tel. 012 / 963 866 000).
Snorkelling: Just a few metres from the shore, you can admire the rich marine fauna and colourful seabed.
Kayaking: Kayak excursions are very popular, especially towards Cabo de San Antonio, where the cliffs offer an incredible visual spectacle. Check with the companies that provide this service.
Photography: An ideal spot to take photos of Cabo de San Antonio and its cliffs.
Nearby restaurants: The cove is in a residential area with almost no shops, but there are two restaurants nearby: Restaurante Mena and Restaurante Ca Nano.
Nearby excursions: There are two very interesting excursions in the area. Very close by is the cave called La Cova Tallada, a marine cave located in the Cabo de San Antonio Marine Reserve, between Dénia and Xábia. It combines natural and artificial parts, as it was used to extract tosca stone. Inside, there are freshwater pools and historical remains, such as 11th-century lamps and an inscription of King Philip III. Access is regulated and requires a prior reservation. Outside of these dates, entry is free.
La Torre del Gerro is a 16th-century watchtower in Dénia, built as part of a defence system against Barbary pirates. It is conical, 13.5 metres high, and includes defensive features such as machicolations and the shield of Charles V. It was part of a network of towers that communicated via fire or mirror signals. Access is by foot, although it is possible to approach by vehicle to about 300 metres via Calle Vía Láctea.

More Information

It is important to remember that, being within a marine reserve, environmental conservation is key. Visitors are encouraged to respect the protection rules, avoiding touching or damaging the rocks or marine life. During certain times of the year, whales can be spotted in the reserve, making the experience even more magical.

Finally, it is important to note that, being a small cove, it fills up quickly during peak season. If you plan to visit in the height of summer, consider arriving early to secure a good spot and make the most of your day.
