Buses in Dénia: How Public Transport Works in the City

bus at Explanada Cervantes in Dénia

Getting around Dénia can be really convenient if you know how to use its network of city buses. Although it’s a relatively small town, the surrounding areas are extensive, especially towards the northern beaches and the southern coves. This is where public transport becomes essential.

The bus network in Dénia, operated by Denibus, is designed to connect the areas furthest from the town centre, including Les Marines, Las Rotas, and the regional hospital. Everything revolves around a central hub: Explanada Cervantes, in the port area. From here, the four main lines depart, each following a different route with schedules adapted to the season.

In this article, I’ll explain everything: routes, timetables, fares, and some tips that you won’t find on the official websites.

Where Are the Main Stops? The Heart of the System: Explanada Cervantes

All bus lines in Dénia start their journey at Explanada Cervantes, right in the port area next to the Maritime Museum. This central location makes it easy to plan any trip, as you can reach almost any destination from here.

From Explanada Cervantes, the following lines depart:

This departure point turns the station into a small local transport hub. If you’re in the town centre, it’s only a short walk to catch any bus. Additionally, the routes are designed to make circular trips, making the return journey hassle-free.

Les Marines Line: Perfect for the Northern Beaches

This line is probably the most popular during the summer months. It runs through the first half of the Les Marines area, from the port to Nova Dénia, passing by numerous residential areas, hotels, and well-known restaurants. It connects with the Costa Calma line, which goes all the way to the end of Les Marines.

Personally, this line is my favourite for spending the day at the beach without worrying about the car. In summer, the bus runs frequently enough and is ideal if you’re staying in one of the mid-section residential areas.

Costa Calma Line: Explore the Coast up to the Racons River

The Costa Calma line is a kind of continuation of the Les Marines line. It also starts at Explanada Cervantes, but its second stop is where the Les Marines line ends, covering the second stretch of beaches, from Nova Dénia to the Racons River, at the northern end of the municipality.

1. Explanada Cervantes 2. Urb. La Alberca 3. Restaurante Noguera 4. Urb. Las Ranas 5. Rest. Paquebote 6. Mar de Samar Beach Club 7. Restaurante Isa 8. Urb. Costa Calma 9. Urb. Las Rosas 10. Apartamentos El Cid 11. Camping Los Llanos 12. Camping Los Patos 13. Apart. H3 Belman Playa 14. Azahar Ice Cream Parlour 15. Racons River

  • Journey Duration: approx. 30 minutes

It’s ideal if you’re staying in a more remote campsite or apartment. As a regular user, I’ve found it very useful for exploring less touristy areas at a more relaxed pace. The scenery changes, and the atmosphere is calmer than in the central areas.

Las Rotas Line: Easy Access to Dénia’s Most Beautiful Coves

If you enjoy rocky coves, snorkelling, or simply taking in natural landscapes, this line is your ally. It runs through the entire Las Rotas area, south of the town centre, and drops you practically at the beach.

It’s the perfect line for spending the day at one of the coves without worrying about parking. I recommend taking it early in the summer when Las Rotas is still quiet. I’ve always found it amazing to be able to reach there so easily by public transport.

Bus to Denia Hospital: Useful for Getting Around the Town Centre

Denia Bus Timetables: Summer vs Winter

One of the keys to making the most of transport in Denia is understanding the seasonal timetable changes.

Summer (28 June – 3 September):
